Ruben is an addict that is recovering four years sober. In reduced arms, that information is exploited against urge (no body could blame the drummer for dropping from the wagon). Marder is not enthusiastic about clichés; Ruben’s addiction along with his steadfast sobriety are indications of their power, their resilience. His self-pity is — and almost certainly is without question — the seed of their undoing. So that it’s a relief whenever Lou, during the way of these supervisor, makes Ruben into the care of Joe (Paul Raci), a Vietnam veterinarian whom oversees an organization house when it comes to deaf and it is tasked with planning Ruben to reside the full life as a deaf guy.
The scenes between Joe and Ruben would be the heart of Sound of Metal.
